Pluto is classified as a dwarf This Planet. A dwarf planet orbits the sun in the same way that other planets do. It is, however, significantly smaller.
This Planet was found in 1930 by Clyde Tombaugh. He was a scientist from the United States who specialized in astronomy. Astronomers are scientists who study stars and other celestial things. Pluto was named by Venetia Burney in the same year. She was an 11-year-old English girl.
Pluto is a small planet. It is only half the size of the United States of America. Pluto is smaller than the moon of Earth. The orbit of this dwarf planet around the sun takes 248 Earth years. You’d have to wait 248 Earth years to celebrate your first birthday if you lived on Pluto. On Earth, one day on Pluto is approximately 6 1/2 days. This Planrt is nearly 40 times the distance between the sun and the Earth.
The Kuiper Belt (KY-per) Belt is where Pluto is located in space.Thousands of small, icy objects like This Planet but smaller are in the Kuiper Belt. There are five moons on this dwarf planet. Charon (KAIR-n) is the name of its biggest moon. Pluto is almost half the size of Charon. Kerberos, Styx, Nix, and Hydra are the names of Pluto’s four additional moons.

The New Horizons spacecraft approaches Pluto, as depicted in an artist’s drawing. In the distant, the moon Charon may be seen.NASA is to thank for this.
What Does Look Like This Plane ?
This is extremely frigid. It’s considerably colder than Antarctica. It is so cold there that Earth’s air would freeze into snow. This Plane has a lower gravitational pull than Earth. This suggests that a human on This Plane would be substantially lighter than on Earth.
What Is NASA’s Current Exploration Strategy?
Images acquired with telescopes provide NASA with information about Pluto. The four smaller moons were discovered thanks to Hubble Space Telescope images. The Hubble Space Telescope is a formidable instrument. However, Pluto is so far away that even Hubble’s images are hazy.
NASA made the decision to send a spacecraft near to Pluto. New Horizons is the name of the spacecraft. It’s about the same size as a piano. In January 2006, New Horizons debuted. New Horizons sailed by Pluto and its moons in the summer of 2015. Traveling that far from Earth takes over ten years! New Horizons’ cameras captured images of This Planet. The science equipment on board gathered data as the spaceship sailed over.
Scientists are learning more about the dwarf planet thanks to the images and data. Pluto is two-thirds (2/3) rock and one-third (1/3) ice, according to scientists.
Scientists also discovered additional information about This Plane smaller moons. Pluto’s moons rotate faster than other moons, they discovered. Each time the moon Hydra circles Pluto, it rotates 89 times! And the moons sway like tops on a table! Now that New Horizons has completed its mission to investigate Pluto, it is focusing on the Kuiper Belt.
Why is NASA interested in This Plane ?
People enjoy learning new things, which is why NASA sends spacecraft to other planets. Exploring space is interesting because we discover so much new information. Every major planet in the solar system, as well as Pluto and Ceres, has been visited by spacecraft. Scientists may be able to learn more about how planets develop by studying places like Pluto.
