The tone is humorous and critical in perspective the book chronicles the adventures of its narration’s narrator, ‘Isa ibn His as well as his friend and his companion, and his companion, the Pasha and his companion, the Pasha, through a fast Westernized Cairo in the midst the British occupation, providing a vivid analysis of a society that is negotiating, albeit in a way that is not perfect–the clash between imported customs and values with traditional standards of conduct, law and education.
“Second Journey” follows the Pasha “Second Journey” takes the Narrator to Paris to see the Exposition Universelle of 1900, where Al-Muwaylihi turns the constant criticism of European society modernity, the state of affairs, and the significance of Western imperialism that ripples throughout the world.
