I am a 20-year medical student who would like to wear a hijab but am worried that I may not be attractive and that it’s a lifetime commitment, which is why I’m not in a position to continue wearing it.

Some might not agree with me; however, should it help you, I believe you can tackle the hijab more slowly.
The same thing I did, I would wear it only at first at the Sisters’ Gathering and the mosque. I was wearing it for several months.
Then, I attended an interview with it, and when I was accepted, I decided that I would wear it for the rest of my life from that point on.
If you think it could be beneficial, wear it just every time you shop, or most importantly, visit the mosque. Later on, you can also begin wearing it at other locations.

Also, you mentioned that you feared you’d want to get off the ring. It’s possible to remove it. No one holds a gun to your head to make you do anything; it’s entirely your choice.

However, it’s your choice; only Allah knows what you want to do.
I know of sisters who have done this; they were married but later got divorced.
They were left with their children. Their spouses weren’t able to help financially, they didn’t have family, and their surroundings were not Muslim-friendly; therefore, they decided not to press themselves more and instead began doing work without a hijab.
I’m not saying it’s correct, but it isn’t. If you prioritize Allah and follow His will, He will always support you. Be aware of the hadith that says:
“I am just as My slave thinks I am (i.e. I can do for him what he thinks I can do for him), and I am with him if He remembers Me.”
However, it could occur… But don’t even think about this option, dear sister.
Never even consider it in your head. Instead, remember that Allah is our most trusted friend in this world. Trust Him. Concentrate on the reason why you want it to be worn. Inshallah, you will discover the happiness and comfort you desire.
