Ramadan’s Last Ten Days

The last ten days of Ramadan are unique in every Muslim’s life. Muslims believe this is the most blessed month of Ramadan when the Quran is revealed.

Muslims believe that even though the Prophet Muhammad had been promised Paradise, he would exert himself more during these last 10 days to draw closer to Allah.

The Prophet’s (may Allah be pleased) wife, A’ishah, said: “With the beginning of the last 10 days of Ramadan, the Prophet used to tighten his waistbelt (i.e., work hard), and used pray all night, as well as keep his family up for prayers.” (reported Al-Bukhari).

For Muslims, these last ten should be used to perfect their fasts and avoid any things that could break them. This is the time to do more charity, settle disagreements and forgive each other.

This is an excellent time to do some soul-searching, evaluate your life, ask forgiveness, and supplicate. It is essential to be sincere because Allah will forgive your sins if you make a genuine request.

It is best to do this in the final part of the evening. Abu Hurayrah said that the Prophet (peace be upon him) had said: “When only one-third of the night is left, our Lord the Glorious descends to the lower heavens and says, Is anyone begging Me so that I grant their supplications?

Is anyone asking Me to grant them their wish? “Is there anyone seeking My forgiveness? I will forgive him.” (Reported by Al-Bukhari & Muslim) In the last third, it is important to read more Qur’an and to remember Allah constantly. Itikaf has also been known as a spiritual retreat during the last ten days.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) would perform itikaf at the mosque in the last ten nights of Ramadan. He would barely sleep during this time. Itikaf is an act of total devotion to Allah, a vacation with Him.

This time is spent in worship, extra prayers (ritual Prayers), Qur’an reading, dhikr, and dual. You should forget about the world, eat, sleep, and pray in the mosque.

If you can’t perform the itikaf in ten days, try it even for just one or two nights. Laylat Al-Qadr also occurs during the last 10 days of Ramadan.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Any Muslim standing in prayer during Laylat Al-Qadr with faith and sincerity will have his past sins forgiven.”
