Funeral Prayers (Salat Janaza ) – Dear Brother and Sisters, Ṣalāt al-Janāzah (Arabic: صلاة الجنازة) is the Islamic funeral prayer; a part of the Islamic ritual. The funeral prayer is performed in the congregation to seek pardon for the deceased and all dead Muslims. The funeral prayer is a collective obligation upon Muslims, i.e. if some Muslims take the responsibility of doing it, the obligation is fulfilled, but if no one fulfills it, then all Muslims will be accountable. Performing the funeral prayer when the body is not present is generally not permitted in the Hanafi and Maliki madhhabs, is permitted in the Hanbali madhhab, and is recommended in the Shafi‘i madhhab.

How do you pray?
It is recommended to divide the prayer group into odd rows, with one person serving as an Imam standing on his own in front of the Qiblah. The body is put in between the imam. If there are two bodies, it is recommended to place them on top of each other. The spoken portion of the prayer says the sura Al-Fatiha, praying to God to grant peace and mercy on Muhammad before reciting two du’as. There isn’t a Ruku in the prayer of Janazah.
