Goodnight Moon, Picture Book by Margaret Wise Brown-Goodnight Moon is an American children’s book by Margaret Wise Brown, illustrated by Clement Hurd. It was published in on September 3, 1947.
This is Brown and Hurd’s second book in their “classic series”, which also contains My World and the Runaway Bunny. These three books were published together in a compilation titled Over the Moon
A little bunny is found in a green room, snuggled in bed. Goodnight, room. Goodnight moon. The little bunny wishes you good night to all the familiar items in the room, including the picture of the three bears on chairs, the clocks and socks, the mittens, and kittens.
This classic children’s book is a favorite of generations of listeners and readers. The quiet poetry and gentle illustrations make it a great book for ending the day.

About the Author
Margaret Wise Brown was adored for her unique ability of expressing a child’s perspective and experience of the world. She transformed children’s literature with classics like Goodnight Moon, The Runaway Bunny. Ms. Brown’s other perennial favorites include Nibble Nibble, My World, where have you been? Christmas in the Barn, The Dead Bird, Sneakers, the Seaside Cat, and Christmas in the Barn.
Clement Hurd (1908-1988), is most well-known for his illustrations of Goodnight Moon, and The Runaway Bunny. These are classic picture books by Margaret Wise Brown. In the 1930s, he studied painting with Fernand Leger in Paris.
He returned to the United States in 1935 and began working in children’s literature. Edith Thacher Hurd was his illustrator, and together they illustrated over 100 books. These included The Day The Sun Danced and The Merry Chase. He was a native New Yorker, but he spent most of his adult life in Vermont and California.
