Is listening to music in Ramadan haram?
Listening to music is haram , The act remains prohibited throughout the year but fasting makes it more serious and wrong during Ramadan. The principle behind fasting requires one to seek piety toward Allah as well as maintaining physical conduct that obeys divine commands.
Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“O you who believe! The holy revelation shows that God requires Muslim believers to perform Saws from the same practice that existed for earlier generations as a way to become pious people [al-Baqarah 2:183].
And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Fasting does not just mean (abstaining) from eating and drinking, rather fasting means (abstaining) from idle and obscene talk…” Narrated by al-Hakim who said: This hadith is sahih according to the conditions of Sahi Muslim.
Abu Huraira رضي الله عنه narrates from Prophet Muhammad
English Translation:
WHOEVER DOES NOT GIVE UP FALSE SPEECH AND ACTING UPON IT, AND IGNORANCE,
THEN ALLAH HAS NO NEED FOR HIM TO GIVE UP HIS FOOD AND DRINK.
(Narrated by Al-Bukhari and Abu Dawood; the wording is from Abu Dawood.)
Transliteration:
Man lam yadaʿ qawla az-zūr wa al-ʿamala bihi, wa al-jahla,
fa laysa lillāhi ḥājatan fī an yadaʿa ṭaʿāmahu wa sharābahu.
Does Listening To Songs Break Your Fast?
The purpose of fasting in The Holy Ramadan is to attain self-control and quit all sins to gain Taqwa. Listening to music or committing any other sin while fasting kills this purpose.
This is why, although it won’t make your fast invalid, it will deprive you of the benefits of fasting.
So, you should avoid listening to music at all times, especially while fasting.
