Does Gum Break Intermittent Fasting?

Does Gum Break Intermittent Fasting? Beliefs, Holy Month, Pillar of Islam, Prayer, Ramadan

Does Gum Break Intermittent Fasting? Present-day chewing gum seems to be the focus of the questioner as it consists of rubbery material with artificial flavorings alongside sugary components. Consuming this type of gum breaks the fast since the saliva causes liquid sugar and flavoring contents to enter the stomach.

Undoubtedly this breaks one’s fast, because nutrients enter in the stomach. But if the gum does not contain any substance any ingredients  that will dissolve and enter in the stomach, then it does not break the fast.

How to remove the smell of bad breath in The Holy Ramadan

The Muslim should choose siwak instead of chewing gum to improve mouth smell since the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) narrated this action among his Sunnah.

You have two options to reduce odor by rinsing your mouth or applying toothpaste though you should avoid swallowing toothpaste content. The oral use of bleeding herbs should be avoided if you think these substances could enter your stomach.

Does Gum Break Intermittent Fasting? The scent that a fasting person’s stomach releases cannot be remedied through siwak or other hygiene tools because it emerges from the empty stomach condition. In the eyes of Allah such mouth odor holds greater value than the scent of musk. According to the narrated tradition from Abu Hurayrah through the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) “The smell of the fasting person’s mouth is better before Allah than the fragrance of musk.” (Narrated by al-Bukhari, 5583; Muslim, 1151)

But if the purpose of using gum is to treat the jaw by means of moving it, please see question no. 38552 .

And Allah knows best.
