Mole thinks that the moon’s clear, beautiful light is something he’s ever seen and is determined to make it his own. However, as his companions Rabbit, Hedgehog, and Squirrel remind him, things aren’t quite as simple or as simple–as they appear! Jonathan Emmett’s poetic text and Vanessa Cabban’s illustrations of the woodland illustrate Mole’s efforts in a concerted manner with humor and grace.

About the Author
Jonathan Emmett intended to end the story by describing Mole creating a tower for the moon, but his son, aged three, Max, pointed out that it would be simpler to Mole to climb the tree instead. (Max believes that Mole would have been able to see the moon if he had selected a higher tree.) BRINGING DOWN THE MOON Jonathan Emmett’s debut novel with Candlewick Press.
Vanessa Cabban has written and illustrated a number of books for children and young readers, including BERTIE AND SMALL and The BRAVE SEA JOURNEY and and BERTIE and SMALL and the SLOW BIKE RIDE. She is also the artist of Down in the Woods at the time of sleep written by Carole Lexa Schaefer.
