Juwayriya Bint al-Harith (رضي الله عنه) – Umm Habiba was the daughter of Abu Sufyan, who for many years was among the most uncompromising adversaries of Prophet Muhammad (peace and peace from Allah be upon his soul) making the most of his fortune opposition to the Muslims and directing the forces from his kafirun in battle against Muslims in all of the early major battles, including the ones that took place at Badr, Uhud and al-Khandaq.

It was only after the victory over Mecca and the time that the Prophet graciously forgiven him after his pardoning, the time Abu Sufyan embraced Islam and began to fight alongside his fellow Muslims instead of fighting against them.

Umm Habiba and her first husband, named Ubaydullah Ibn Jahsh who was who was the son of Zaynab bint Jahsh was among the first to adopt Islam in Mecca and they were among the first Muslims who fled to Abyssinia in order to be secure. When they arrived there in Abyssinia Ubaydullah, however, renounced Islam and turned Christian.

He attempted to convince her convert to Christian however, she refused to change her mind and remained at a distance. This caused Umm Habiba in a difficult situation as the Muslim woman is only married to an Muslim man. She was unable to be married to her husband, and after having been divorced, she was not able to go back to the father who was fighting against the Muslims. Therefore, she was at home with her young daughter Abyssinia and lived a minimalist life in the solitude of her home in the hope of seeing what Allah will decree for her.

One day, while Umm Habiba sat in her private room, alone in a faraway land of her house, a servant came to her door, and told her she was sent by the Negus with an important message for her. The message stated it was the message that prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings Allah be upon his name) requested her hand in marriage and if she would accept the proposal, she had to select one of the accepters.

She had to select an individual among those Muslims from Abyssinia for her husband to ensure that the wedding ceremony could be held in Abyssinia even although she was not the same spot like the prophet. The Prophet was obviously Umm Habiba was overjoyed and took the proposal immediately. “Allah has given you good news! Allah has give you good news!” she cried, taking off the jewelry she was wearing and handing it over to the girl who was smiling. She requested that she repeat the message three times because she couldn’t believe what she heard.

After this afterward, all Muslims who taken for refuge at Abyssinia were called into the palace of Negus to observe the simple ceremony of marriage that was performed on behalf of the Prophet and her the wakil, Khalid ibn al-As, acted in her place. As the marriage was completed after the ceremony, Negus addressed the gathering. Negus addressed the audience with the following words:

“I thank Allah the Holy and proclaim that I am the sole god other than Allah in addition to the fact the fact that Muhammad is His messenger and His servant and that He revealed an excellent message to Jesus, the Son of Mary.

“The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) requested me to conclude the marriage contract between him and Umm Habiba, the daughter of Abu Sufyan. I agreed to do what he requested, and on his behalf I give her a dowry of four hundred gold dinars.” Negus handed over the money. Negus gave the money to Khalid ibn Sa’id , who was seated and declared:

“All praise goes the Lord Allah. I thank Him and seek His forgiveness and assistance and seek Him to repent. I swear to the fact that Muhammad is His messenger and his servant who He has appointed in the spirit of direction and truth, so that it can triumph over other religions even though those who oppose this.

“I accepted to follow the instructions of Muhammad (peace and peace from Allah be upon his soul) asked me to do and performed as the wakil in behalf of Umm Habiba who is the daughter of Abu Sufyan. It is my wish that Allah be pleased with His messenger and wife. We congratulate Umm Habiba for the goodness that Allah has granted her.”

Juwayriya Bint al-Harith (رضي الله عنه) – Khalid accepted the dowry and gave it to Umm Habiba. Even though she couldn’t travel to Arabia immediately but she was able to travel by the Prophet (peace and the blessings of Allah be on his name) immediately after the fact and the day they got married. The Muslims who witnessed the marriage ceremony were about to leave and leave when Negus advised them to, “Sit down, for it is the practice of the Prophets to serve food at marriages.

” Then everyone sat down to eat food and to enjoy the celebration. Umm Habiba especially could hardly believe in her luck she later told how excited she was to share her joy by saying: “When I received the money as a dowry I paid fifty mithqals worth that contained gold. I gave them to the servant girl who initially brought me the great news. I then said to her: ‘I’ve given you the same gift when you handed me the good news , because at the time, I had no money in any way.’

“Shortly following, she returned to me and gave me to me the jewelry. She also gave me an item that contained the necklace that I had given her and returned it to me. She said”The Negus has ordered me to not take any thing from you, and he has ordered women of his household to shower you with perfumed gifts.’

“On the next day, she presented me with aloes, saffron, and ambergris wood oil. She then she said, ‘I’ve got an offer to make of you.’

“What do you mean by that?” I inquired.

‘”I accept Islam”,’ she responded and said, ‘and I am now following the practice that was taught by Muhammad (peace and the blessings from Allah be on his name). Please send my prayers of peace to him and inform him that I trust that I am a believer in Allah and His Messenger. Don’t overlook.'”

Juwayriya Bint al-Harith (رضي الله عنه) – Six years after and in 7 AH in which the refugees Muslims in Abyssinia could finally be allowed to return Arabia, Umm Habiba came to Medina and there, the prophet Muhammad (peace and peace from Allah be upon his soul) who was just returning triumphant from Khaybar and warmly welcomed her. Umm Habiba relates:

“When I met the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), I told him all about the arrangements that had been made for the marriage, and about my relationship with the girl. I told him that she had become a Muslim and conveyed her greetings of peace to him. He was filled with joy at the news and said, ‘Wa alayha as salam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh’ – ‘And on her be the peace and the mercy of Allah and His blessing.'”

The power of Umm Habiba’ s character can be judged by what transpired just prior to her victory over Mecca in the year 570, when her dad, Abu Sufyan, came to Medina following the fact that the Quraish had violated the agreement of Hudaybiyya to negotiate new terms to the Messenger of Allah Muhammad along with the Muslims.

He first visited Umm Habiba’s bedroom and was about to settle on the bed where The Prophet (peace and peace from Allah be upon his soul) lay asleep at the time that Umm Habiba, who had not seen her father in more than six years, pleaded with him to not sit on the blanket and then swiftly folded it up before putting it in storage. “Am I too good for the bed, or it is the bed too good for me?” He asked. “how can the enemy of Islam sit on the bed of the Holy Prophet?” she said.

It was only when Abu Sufyan had embraced Islam after the defeat of Mecca and became the enemy of those who were adversaries of Islam who opposed Islam, and had embraced Islam, that Umm Habiba accepted and loved him for the role of her dad. When she heard that her brother and father Mu’awiya, later Khalif of the Muslims, Khalif for the Muslims and had been made Muslims following the conquest and she fell in kneeling before Allah in gratitude.

Umm Habiba spent four years of her life alongside her Prophet Muhammad (peace and peace of Allah be on his name) and lived for thirty-three years following the time he passed away, passing away at seventy-two years old in the year 44 AH and may Allah be happy with her.

As all wives and companions of the Prophet (peace and peace from Allah be on the Prophet) Umm Habiba spent much of her time thinking about Allah and praising Him. She has told how The Prophet (peace and the blessings from Allah be upon his soul) stated to her “A house will be built in the Garden for anyone who, in the space of a day and a night, prays twelve voluntary rak’ats;” and she said, “I have never stopped doing this since receiving it received the guidance of God’s messenger, Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be on him).

Juwayriya Bint al-Harith (رضي الله عنه) – The 5th year in Migration, Banu Mustaliq clan of the Khuzaa tribe acted to defeat the Muslims The Muslims launched an offensive against them. The expedition was a complete success of Muslims through the aid of Allah All-powerful. Many prisoners and booties were taken.

One of the prisoners among the captives was Barra (Juwayriya) who was one of the daughters Harith and. Abi Dirar, the leader of the Sons of Mustaliq. The husband of Barra was killed in the fight. Juwayriyah was divorced.

The prisoners were distributed between mujahids. Barra was handed over to Thabit B. Qays bin Shammas and his cousin. Barra reached a bargain with her masters that she would be released in exchange in exchange for a set quantity of funds. It was an enormous amount and she was unable to pay the amount. Then, she approached the Prophet and spoke to him about her circumstances.

“I have the honor of being the daughter of Harith b. Abi Dirar, the leader of the Sons of Mustaliq. As you may know, I was given the name of Thabit who was. Qays bin Shammas and his cousin. I signed a contract with them to be released in exchange for a set sum of cash. I am here to request your help to with my ransom.

The Prophet asked the woman, “Is there not anything better than that for you?” Barra inquired, “O Messenger of Allah! What’s the matter?” The Messenger of Allah stated, “Freeing you by paying your ransom and making you my bride.”

Barra began to meditate. Three days prior to fighting, she dreamt in her dreams that the moon was rising off Madinah and fell onto her bosom. When she heard the proposition by the Prophet the light of guidance appeared on her face. She accepted the proposition from the Prophet. She then uttered the word Kalima as-shahadah, and was granted the title of being an Muslim. [1]

In the meantime, Harith b. Abi Dirar, Juwayriyah’s father began his journey towards Madinah with a few members of his tribe as well as a few camels for his daughter’s safety. As he reached Aqiq Valley Aqiq the valley, he surveyed his camels. He kept two gorgeous camels in the valley. He didn’t want to offer these beautiful animals for ransom.

When he got there, he was Madinah. He met the Prophet and told his companion, “My daughter cannot be held as a captive. It does not fit my rank and honor. Free her.” He said, “The Messenger of Allah told him, “Do you want me to give her the right to decide?” Harith responded, “Yes, if you do so, you will perform your duty.” After that, Harith went to his daughter and told her,

“This man gave you the right to decide. Do not disgrace us.”

But it was not possible for Barra to be a fan of anything other than the Prophet. In actual fact, she said the following in the fear of causing embarrassment to her father:

“I prefer the Messenger of Allah.”

Juwayriya Bint al-Harith Harith was angry and declared, “You disgraced us!”[2] He then looked at the Prophet and told him, “These camels are ransom for my daughter. Let them go and hand over the girl for me.” Allah Almighty informed the Prophet that Harith had concealed two camels. He told Harith, “Where are the two camels you kept within Aqiq Valley? Why didn’t you bring them to me?” The miracle led Harith and all the people who were who were with them to become Muslims.

In great enthusiasm, Harith said, “I swear by the fact that there is no god except for Allah and you are the messenger of Allah I swear to Allah that no one but Allah could have known the things I did.” He was an Muslim. The two sons that were along with him as well as some other people belonging to his tribe also were converted to Muslims.

The Prophet then pleaded with Barra’s father to tie her up to him. Harith told him, “May my father and mother be sacrificed to you Allah’s Messenger! Allah! I have granted the woman to you.” Then the Prophet got married to Barra on the 5th of the year Migration. She changed her name to “Juwayriya”. In the context of “Barra” means “good deed, goodness” and the Prophet didn’t like the idea of people saying, “Barra left the house of the Messenger of Allah.”

Juwayriya was only 20 years old when she died.

Juwayriya Bint al-Harith The Companions discovered that the Prophet was married Juwayriya as a cousin to that tribe called Banu Mustaliq, they freed all slaves declaring “The relatives of the wife of the Prophet should not be kept as slaves.” This is why Hz. Juwayriya brought 700 captives from her clan to be released. Additionally, many of the people from her tribe were converted to Muslims. Hz. Aisha loved the frequency. Juwayriya due to this.

Hz. Juwayriya was a fasting and prayer-taking woman who performed frequently. She also gave a lot of emphasis to remembering God’s name and the Name of Allah and praising Him. After performing an early prayer (fajr) she began to offer prayers and dhikr, while prophets left. When he returned later in the morning, he observed her still talking about her names to Allah. He inquired, “Have you been sitting in the same place since I left you?” She answered, “Yes, I have.” The Prophet then said,

“I have recited these four phrases three times before I left, and should these be measured against the ones you’ve been doing since dawn, they’d still be superior to them. The four phrases are as follows:

Subhanallahi adada khalqihi subhanallahi rida nafsihi subhanallahi zinata arshihi subhanallahi midada Kalimatihi. to Allah and praise be to Him as high as the quantity of His creations, His delight as well as the gravity of His Throne and the ink His words leave.

Following this instruction of the Prophet The Prophet, the Prophet. Juwayriya began to speak these words.

Juwayriya Bint al-Harith Juwayriya was a generous woman just like the other wives to the prophet. She would donate food she could to the less fortunate even when she was starving. One time the Prophet appeared in her room and asked “Do you have anything to eat?” Then she said, “No.. Juwayriya said, “By Allah, I have no food. I did have bones, but I donated them to a deserving person.
