You are mistaken if you believe that memorizing the holy Quran is a difficult task. In this article, we’ll outline the steps you need to take in order to memorize the Holy Quran correctly.
- Sincere intention
Having sincere intention is to do everything for Allah’s sake and to avoid involving anybody else with him for obtaining His Paradise, His Pleasure, and the wonderful rewards that are reserved for those who memorize the Quran. Allah Almighty said in Surah Al zumur (11) “Say, “I am commanded to worship Allah, being sincerely devoted to Him ˹alone” - Dua
“We shall make you to recite (the Quran), so you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) shall not forget (it)” – Surah Al a’laa (6)
If you desire to memorize the holy Quran, you must start praying to Allah that He aid you in doing so. Only Allah the Almighty is capable of making us read and memorize without forgetting. And keep repeating this beautiful dua: ( اللهم علمنا من القرأن ما جهلنا وذكرنا منه ما نسينا ) Allaahumma `allimna minhu ma jahilna, wa zhakkirna minhu ma naseena
English: O God, teach us of it what we have not learned, remind us of what we forgot of it. - Purify your heart
you have to purify your heart and make it free of sins in order to be capable of accepting, learning, and memorizing the Quran. - Patience
having the patience to memorize is required as you’ll face many difficulties when you start. So instead of easily giving up, continue memorizing since it gets easier over time. - Give it time
Allah Almighty said in Quran: [But as for you, O believers,] never shall you attain to true piety unless you spend on others out of what you cherish yourselves; and whatever you spend – verily, God has full knowledge thereof.
So be aware that what you will succeed in the world does not correlate to a verse from the Quran. Even if it is permitted, being focused on worldly matters can cause one to lose out on a lot of positive things. - Have a daily portion to read and memorize
‘A’isha reported God’s Messenger as saying, “The acts most pleasing to God are those which are done most continuously, even if they amount to little.” (Bukhari and Muslim.)
So, if you want to memorize the holy Quran, you should set a daily portion of verses that you will be continuously memorizing every day, just as you’re continuous on food and drink. The number of verses will vary depending on the person and the circumstances, so you must be aware of your personal limitations in order to avoid overloading yourself. - Start early in the morning
Our prophet peace be upon him said “O Allah, bless my nation early in the morning.’
so it’s preferable that you start memorizing after fajr before you get indulged with worldly life matters that distract us. - Befriend Quran people
Make friends with the followers of the Quran, share with them what you have learned from the book of Allah, and pay attention to what they share with you. There are numerous advantages to that friendship, you can correct each other’s mistakes, motivate each other, and so on. - Read more during holy times
Read more in Ramadan, the last 10 days of Ramadan, and the first 10 days of Dhu al-Hijja. In addition to Fridays and the day of Arafah. - Take advantage of your youth
seize your youth, your health, and your leisure time by memorizing Quran before its too late - read aloud in a melodic voice
Because that pushes sleep away and causes the reader’s heart to awaken in addition to forcing them to think about the verses because when you read aloud, you turn your whole attention to the them. - Learn Tafseer
Tafseer is the explanation of the Quranic words and verses. Understanding unfamiliar words and their meanings make memorization simple and easy, but don’t let this stop you from memorizing; rather, see it as a way to fulfill your deepest desire and aim, which is to memorize the Quran. - Recite the verses you’re memorizing in your prayers
This is knowing as one of the ways to practice what you’ve memorized so that you never forget it. - Memorize the Surahs that were mentioned in Hadiths
Our prophet peace be upon him said “Recite the two illuminating ones, Sūrat al-Baqarah and Sūrat Āl-‘Imrān”
Keep reading the surahs that the Prophet peace be upon him would recite at specific days, like Surah Al-kahf. In a narration from the Prophet Muhammad pbuh it is stated that the one who reads Surah Al-Kahf on Fridays will find his entire week enlightened until the next Friday.
